Get Litterate!
A common concern for cat parents (old and new), is how many litter boxes to keep in their homes.
Well, here's the answer: You should always have one litter box per cat, plus one extra. If you have just one cat, an extra litter box is helpful if the first one is dirty or if your cat just sometimes feels a change of bathroom space. And for two cats or more, as much as your cats may love each other and get along, they are territorial and more than anything, prefer to have their own personal space to do their business. So an extra litter box is an assured way for you to keep your cats happy and prevent them from peeing or pooping all around your house!
When getting your cat a litter box, size is an important factor to keep in mind. It's advised to make sure the litter box is:
-
As long as at least 1.5 times your cat's length (from their nose to their tail)
-
Slightly wider than the width of the cat
Cats should be able to comfortably move around in the litter box, do their thing, be able to cover it, and avoid any old deposits, all without having to step out of the box or constantly adjusting in awkward ways.

We're sure all you cat parents at some point have wondered how much to fill your cat's litter box...and the most accurate solution to this is hugely dependent on your cat.
Each cat is different and will have their own preference for how deep the litter in their box should be for them to comfortably scratch and cover their waste. We recommend starting with 2-3 inches of litter, and then adjust based on your cat's habits and behaviour. If your cat is a deep scratcher, you might have to increase to 4 inches and vice versa. :)
Cats are very finicky about cleanliness, and chances are if their litter box isn't kept clean, they won't use it. So here's what you need to do:
Daily: Use a scooper to remove the clumps of pee and poop from their litter every single day. Fill in more litter every 4-5 days based on the reducing amounts as you clean out the box.
Monthly: Dump out all the used litter in the box and clean it thoroughly with a mild soap and water (no bleach or strong cleaners as the smell could bother your cat) and refill with new litter.
